Today's Tuesday feature is someone I personally am inspired by on a daily basis. Her work is moody, thought provoking and mysterious at times. Her processing is out of this world and definitely her own. She is very active in the community and sweet as pie. Please take some time to read a bit about Amy Booker Photography!
How long have you been doing photography all together and how long as a business?
3 years now and counting.
What made you want to get into lifestyle photography?
I love being able to capture my daughter growing up, showing her personality and my view combined.
What is the one thing about lifestyle photography that you love the most?
In my photos, I love when the subject is looking away, it adds so much mood to the image. It is about embracing real emotion. I love when kids can be themselves.
Can you give one tip of how you shoot with moodier light or low light?
I always look for backdrops that are dark in color, I also look for light peaking through small spaces. Windows are amazing and add so much drama.
Who is your favorite muse? and why?
My daughter. She is a spitting image of me. As a parent, I am her role model, and she is my inspiration to follow my dreams and embrace the life that I have provided for her.
What is your favorite time of the day to shoot?
I love shooting on overcast days or right after sunset. Great diffused light!
Can you tell us a little about how you get kids to loosen up and not be shy so you can do your thing?
Give a child an activity to focus on. You want them to have fun! I set my daughter up with an activity or take a prop out and let her do her own thing, I want her to show the world who she is.
How do you prepare yourself and your clients going into a lifestyle shoot?
I see it as more laid back, I actually really enjoy being able to capture the bond between families and the free spirit of children without feeling "tense". I like to be down to earth.
How do you get families to be themselves and not nervous, can you share some tips?
Ask them to talk about their day to eachother or ask a child to tell their parent one thing they love about them. I also like telling couples to look at each other because that makes them start to laugh and smile! It is all about the interaction to me.
What would you tell someone wanting to venture into lifestyle photography but doesn't know how to make the transition?
Fill your portfolio full of candid moments, what you post most of is what you'll attract. I will still take posed photos but like to add a dash of candid, it's great to mix it up. With your family, going on adventures and pulling out your camera is the best <3 Sometime's it's not all about the fake cheeses, it's about the raw emotion. I love capturing a candid moment and turning it into a photographic masterpiece.
