Featured Photographer: Gingersnapography Family Photography {In Fog}

The first set of pics are Springtime fog.

The tricky thing about "sunny" fog is that the light reflecting off the fog can trick your light meter.

The next set of pics were taken in Autumn. *Usually*, if there's fog, it's overcast. Expose as such.

I think the biggest thing I look for is composition.

I love a big atmosphere, and I kinda dig negative space.

I like finding a good winding road with a cave of trees,
whether they're lush with Autumn foliage, or bare and creepy-ish.

The last set are from winter.

Both sets of images were taken on a day where it had previously snowed quite a lot,
then warmed up rapidly, causing a mist-like fog.

Here again, the light bouncing off of the snow AND fog can trick your light meter,
pay attention there.

I also love a pop of contrasting color somewhere in there.

Something to really draw the eye in.

I tend to style in neutral tones.

While I'm lucky that my children's hair provides that color for me,
you could obtain the same results with wardrobe.

And a quick note on wardrobe...

I get lots of comments about the things I style my subjects in.

Let me tell you-almost all of it comes from 2nd hand and consignment shops!
You don't need to break the bank for great stylized shoots.

About Jamie from Gingersnapography Family Photography:

I'm a married mom of 3 (18, 7, and 4).  We live in Metro Detroit with our three cats.  I work full time coding and auditing electronic medical records. I also play fiddle in a couple of local Irish bands.  Photography started out as a hobby for me about two years ago, and quickly grew into a passion.  I believe it's just like any other skill- you must keep practicing. Never fall into complacency, just keep learning!
