Summer Editing Challenge | Winner

Congratulations to Jaclyn of Jaclyn Shepard Photography on her beautiful edit of Amber Rose Photography's beach photo.  Check out her edit and read a little bit about Jaclyn below.

Hi, this is Jaclyn. I got my first DSLR for Christmas a few years ago, but I didn’t really immerse myself into photography until last Spring after my mom passed away. In the process of trying to be a strong role model for my young daughter, I realized that I really had no way to cope. It was then that I made a concerted effort to learn more about my shiny new DSLR and put it to some serious use. I also became keenly aware that I wasn’t appreciating what I had and I wasn't living in the moment... it was always about what was next. I’m still a work in progress in that department, but photography has really helped me live in the "now" and capture special moments as they are happening.  This approach has absolutely shaped my photography style, and I’d probably categorize my work as lifestyle or photojournalistic. I’m still a newbie, but as my photography voice has grown, my editing style is slowly following suit. I’m drawn to clean, bright images... those that are timeless but also have a sense of fun or humor. I would say that I am most humbly inspired by the work of Lisa Tichané of Tout Petit Pixel and Kansas Pitts of Kansas Pitts Photography. Both of these amazingly talented women have had a major influence on shaping my photography.

I couldn’t resist participating in this editing challenge because of the stunning beach scene that Amber captured. I decided to stay true to the natural beauty in the image, so I approached the edit with the notion of pumping up the volume without losing the detail. I decided to put emphasis on the vibrant colors in the sky, complementing and highlighting the sweet little girl in the center of the frame. Ultimately I wanted a warm, colorful feeling with a touch of drama to draw people in and wish they were standing on that very beach and that very moment.
